IaIn Duncan

A recent arrival to the Vancouver Island music scene, saxophonist Iain Duncan plays with a relaxed, swinging, lyrical sound rooted in the jazz of the mid-century mainstream. Drawing on the influence of Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, and Lester Young, Iain performs in a wide variety of musical contexts: westcoast cool jazz, soul jazz, bossa nova, Kansas City swing, and electric jazz-funk.

Based in Victoria, BC, Iain Duncan performs on both tenor and alto saxophones, and on EWI wind synthisizer. Iain's playing covers a range of styles including westcoast cool, sixties soul jazz, bossa nova & lounge, and jazz funk.

He studied music formally at Capilano College and the University of British Columbia, and has had the privilege of studying the horn with Canadian master saxophonists David Branter, Mike Allen, and Steve Kaldestad.

Iain has performed widely in British Columbia at as a saxophonist, electronic musician, and variety entertainer. To the best of his knowledge he's the only saxophonist who can also juggle seven balls and balance a saxophone on his head!
